*pikminlink, *Markiemark425, I and others decided to move the Saturday Zelda gathering indoors after everyone was complaining of suffering (or starting to suffer) from over-exposure to strong sunlight and high heat. I led the whole group to the area on the 2nd floor of the BCC with the old ship models in glass boxes and did the rest of the shoot/gathering there. :) You can see the costume *pikminlink was wearing in my collage here: [link]

Wow! Thanks for telling me! I appreciate it! I was so upset i missed everyone! I was REALLY looking forward to it! XD I literally ran to the shoot outside...with my sword...and shield...and corset constricting my chest, and there was one lone Windwaker link there. I hugged her happy to see her lol. But I had figured you all had dispersed or something. i just kept my spirits up and continued on my day ^_^

Dang, sounds like i just missed everyone! Curse my luck! Do you know if you all are going to any other cons in the near future?

So you were like Moses leading the people out of the cursed heat. *chuckles* ^.^

None of us wanted to get a heatstroke (after hearing ambulance sirens near the con center all weekend, probably from those who did get heatstrokes), so we all returned inside to cool off. You can see many shots from the Saturday indoors Zelda gathering here: [link]

To answer your 2 other questions:

*pikminlink and her best friend ~ryuchama were on an extended stay on the East Coast. *pikminlink was a Cosplay Guest at Florida Supercon 2011 in July, and had First Class air tickets paid for by Supercon. The con also let her have a personal/custom choice of arrival and departure dates. With this in mind, she decided to take a long vacation on the East Coast, staying at ~ryuchama's parents' place near Baltimore and attend Otakon before she had to return to San Francisco on the West Coast.

During her stay, she made her new costume and finished it on the Friday evening of Otakon (I haven't seen her at the Friday Zelda gathering). I guess the fabric paint dried overnight, just in time for the Saturday gathering. I guess her main motivations for attending Otakon were: Supercon let her choose her departure date so she could stay on the East Coast as long as she wanted; she was making a new costume and wanted a convention to wear it and show it off; she hasn't attended Otakon since 2008; she wanted to meet Akira Sasanuma, the voice actor of Link in Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword; and she wanted to see some friends she hasn't met for a long time, like *akuriko and *InkyLink. Of course, MY own motivations were: I wanted to attend this con for ages; I found a group to travel with, for cheap; I'm starting to attend more USA conventions so Otakon was naturally the next one I would attend; and I wanted to meet *pikminlink again, after seeing her in 2009 at my local anime con #Otakuthon. :D

Secondly, it was *Markiemark425 with his high stature and long sword who actually led most of the pack inside. I was the pathfinder, and I suggested the 2nd floor because there were much less people than the 1st or 3rd ones. Less people = less body heat, so everyone was able to cool down (and the floor was collecting cold air from the A/C ;)).

I would've loved to have met everyone. I'll have to try again either at the next con or next year *pouts*

Do as I do, watch those cosplayers, read all of their announcements, check out which cons they'll attend in the future. Most of them list their cons on their dA journals or personal websites. That's how I found out about *pikminlink's presence at Otakon (website) and her extended stay on the East Coast (Twitter).

If you're talking about gatherings, then there's a tendency for them to start a bit earlier than planned. I guess because 3-5 mins before the "official" start of a gathering, there's already momentum going on between the cosplayers and the crowd, so the gathering starts earlier and (consequently) finishes earlier. For relocated gatherings, it's very difficult to "broadcast" a last-minute change as it was with the Saturday Zelda gathering unless someone does it on Twitter, Facebook or the Cosplay.com forums, and everyone else is watching those information channels at the same time, at very short regular intervals.

Mouth-to-ear will always be the quickest and easiest source of information, though sometimes not as accurate as getting it from an online source. But to reach an online source, you'll need an Internet access point such as a cellphone. And not everyone has a cellphone... So asking people around will be the only remaining practical choice. But not all people may have heard where the gathering was relocated, so I wish you good luck to find out where it moved to! Guessing also works, but with a lower success rate - though if you're logical enough, you may have a good guess where the cosplayers went, based on the given situation.

So arriving 5-10 mins before the actual beginning of the gathering may be beneficial to you, especially if the gathering is of great importance to you. With momentum going on, they usually won't wait till the actual beginning of the gathering to pose for photos, and if they're going to be relocated, they won't leave someone behind to tell late-arrivals where the group went to.

Good luck at the next con and I hope you'll be successful! :)

I'm aware of how con gatherings run, i've been going for the past 4-5 years. I was just so busy that day. I went through like 3-4 costume changes and then make sure I was ready for the masq, which I won best Journeyman :)

I was too ambitious, so i'm going to plan things better next time.
